Roto announces new Anti-Viral Technology for window handles
12/11/2020
Window handles from Roto are now available with a special coating designed to dramatically reduce the possibility of viruses and other pathogens being transferred by touch.
The new coating is called Roto AVT, or Anti-Viral Technology works in two ways; firstly, by preventing viruses from attaching to the surface and secondly with active ingredients that deactivate or “kill” any virus particles that do come into contact with the handle, claims the company.
Roto describes their AVT as being, “transparent, thin-layered and barely perceptible to the touch”. The coating, which is also UV-resistant, has a very hard, pore-free surface. The top layer is so smooth it creates the lotus effect, preventing moisture and contaminants from adhering to the surface. This means droplets containing virus particles are much less likely to remain on the handle.
Further protection is provided by active ingredients in the coating, which have a biocidal, fungicidal and virucidal effect to render pathogens inactive. Pathogens that are neutralised include the influenza (H1N1) and SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) viruses.
Certified tests have proven the Roto AVT surface remains effective, even on handles that are used frequently. Roto is making test documentation available to all customers who purchase handles with the special coating.
Chris Cauwenberghs, Head of Market Requirements and Product Range Marketing for Roto Western Europe, said, “This is another step forward in surfaces from Roto, and of course a very timely one. Similar technology is already used in hospitals for coating bed frames and other medical equipment. Roto AVT coating is therefore suitable for windows used in environments with strict hygiene requirements. This obviously includes all medical settings and is also worth considering for care homes, schools, offices, hotels - anywhere that windows are operated by many different people”.
